IN TIME...

    at Whalehead...into an era
    of gracious mansions,
    hunting parties, a timeless
    Corolla Village and
    unforgettable people.

The grounds connecting Whalehead, Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the Wildlife Education Center are public, owned by Currituck County and intended to be used as a park. Located inside this area is a boat ramp and several slips for temporary docking. Please note the following rules and regulations:

  • Use of the boat ramp is available while the park is open (dawn to dusk year round)
  • No overnight docking or parking of vehicles and trailers is permitted
  • There is no charge to use the boat ramp or slips
  • IMPORTANT: Please note that we are located on Currituck Sound, which is a shallow body of water that is mainly wind driven, rather than tide driven. The water at the boat ramp is typically no more than 18”-24” deep, and this depth depends heavily on wind direction. For example, if there is a strong north/ northeast wind, it is likely that there will be no water at the ramp. We strongly encourage maritime adventurers to check the local wind forecasts in addition to the radar, tide and depth charts.
